Into The Nothing: Broken Outlaw #1 by B.T. Urruela ~ Review

Into The Nothing
Broken Outlaw #1
by BT Urruela

Xander Evans has been on the road for many years. Never settling. Always moving from one place to another, unable to let go of his past. He lived a tragic childhood, spending most of those years in foster care. He's never felt like he's had a home. That is until he stops in the small town of Truman Valley, Missouri, where he meets a woman who will change everything he's ever known.

Paige Watson has it all. A loving family, beautiful home, and a great career. The only thing she's love. After escaping an abusive relationship, she opens her heart up to a stranger. He is unlike any man she's ever met. He came into her life and turned it completely upside down. Everything is perfect. That is, until one fateful night.

A night that would tear the Watson family apart, never to be put back together again.

A night that would send Xander away to prison for life.

Into the Nothing is the first novel in the Broken Outlaw series. It is also the author's freshman solo novel. Yes, I have A Lover's Lament, no, I haven't read it yet..that being said...

I haven't read too many "romance" books by male authors, what few I have read...blah, just not my thing. I wouldn't quite call Into The Nothing romance - although there is romance in the story, it's more of a ...romantic thriller (light on the romantic & heavy on the thriller) and that intrigued me enough to check it out.

The story is about Xander, a drifter with quite a sordid past & Paige, a young lady who seems to have it all. Everything is not what it seems when it comes to these two characters. Xander is trying to change the course his life has taken and Paige has a past that she needs overcome.

I rather enjoyed the way this story comes to life. In the beginning we find Xander in prison and as the story unfolds we go back in time to see how a chance meeting leads him to where he is and beyond. The secondary characters are a trip...Brandi & Irish (I hope we get their story) and Twitch's too (I think we may see more of him in the future). The story switches POV between Xander & Paige through-out the book and although a decent job was done...I can tell a guy wrote the female POV and IMHO it needed a few more tweaks.

Overall, the story-line was fabulous ~ it sucked me right in from the very beginning and never let go, the writing itself was decent ~ I am sure the little quirks will be more improved with the sophomoric book. I will be waiting to see what's next from B.T. Urruela!

"He was over here for like five hours last night drinking and talking with Dad. You think I like him? My dad's in love. And the way he didn’t hesitate to put Benji in his place, I just think Dad’s got a good feeling about him."

"Shit, I've got a good feeling about him too... and it's in my panties." She laughs and motions toward her crotch. "If I had been working and saw him do that to Benji's fat ass, I would've let him fuck me right on top of the bar…and I would’ve let everyone watch."

"I'm serious. Fuck it!”

"You're ridiculous."

"Paige, don't tell me you didn't notice that anaconda stuffed into his jeans?"

"What?! What the fuck are you talking about? Anaconda? I wasn't looking at his damn jeans." I laugh, finding it hard to not to love this girl who has become like a sister to me. She's the craziest bitch I know, but she's got my back no matter what. She's had it since day one.

"Why wouldn’t you look at his jeans? That’s where his dick is!”

Side Note:

Back in April I had the opportunity to meet B.T. Urruela at NSAS2016 (North Shore Author Signing) & VIP dinner afterward. What a very humble, down to earth, easy to talk to man he is. Thank you for your service and for all the work you do with VETSports.
