  SHE'S A SMALL-TOWN GIRL WITH BIG DREAMS.
Nine years ago, Neve McKay fled her small Southern town and disapproving family to seek a career in the big city. Now she's finally coming home - and hoping for a fresh start. But the relationship that shattered her world still haunts her. And even among her nearest and dearest, she doesn't feel safe.

CAN THIS BAD BOY BE THE ANSWER TO HER PRAYERS?
Ian Campbell is a pure Scottish muscle - as hard and handsome as they come. But when Neve walks into his bar, his heart melts . . . and he vows to have this gorgeous and somewhat vulnerable woman in his life - for better or for worse. What is Neve's tragic secret? And how can Neve expect Ian to protect her, when doing so could put his own life at risk? The only thing Ian knows for sure is that he will do whatever it takes to keep her out of harm's way - and in his loving arms.

Excerpt from Headed for Trouble:

“You might as well quit the flirting. We both know you changed your mind.” “And who said I changed my mind?” he asked, looking put out. He crossed his arms over his chest. “You did.” She gave a lazy shrug. “I saw it on your face, clear as day.” The look on his face was a challenge, but she couldn’t let herself meet it, even if she could find that part of herself that would want to. Because she wasn’t sure she trusted herself, she sat down on the dock and dangled her legs over the edge, staring down into the dark water. Under the trees, it was almost cool here. Almost. Not quite. “You’ve been here for a little while—a few months or more, at least, I’m going to assume. So you’ve probably heard a few rumors, and I can’t say I blame you for deciding I’m more trouble than I’m worth.” Boards creaked under him as he sat down next to her. From the corner of her eye, she could see the way faded denim stretched over hard thighs, denim so worn it was going white at the seams. His T-shirt bore the logo for Manchester United and it was almost as faded as the denim. It would be soft against his skin, she thought. And under it, his skin would be incredibly hard and warm. She wanted to curl her hands into his shirt, straddle his thighs, and rub herself against him. And she wanted to yell at him for making her think she could maybe have the small promise of oblivion with him. You’ve lost your mind. All this time with a nonexistent libido and now it was going haywire on her. To make matters worse, it wasn’t even lust driving her now. She’d known that from the sucker punch of pain that had hit her when the heat in Ian’s eyes had cooled, the moment he’d realized who she was. “I’ve never been one to put much stock in rumors, Neve McKay,” he said softly. “Really.” Turning her head, she studied him. “So the hot-to-cold act was all because you figured out I’m Brannon’s little sister? Then why are you running warm again? I’m still his sister.” A pained look crossed his face. “You aren’t one for the easy way, are you?” “Are you kidding?” She laughed bitterly. “I love the easy way. But the easy way hates me. I figured that out ages ago. Besides, life isn’t easy.” Ian leaned forward, elbows braced on his knees. “Brannon, he’s one of my best friends. Has been since university. We met in London and it was like we’d known each other our whole lives.” His voice was distant now as he gazed into the water. “Like a brother, he is.” Now he looked up and met her gaze. “I take issue when people hurt those I care about,” he said. “And . . . ” She stiffened. Curling her hands around the boards, she focused on the far side of the bank. “Well, I’ll give you points for the loyalty you show your friends then.” She forced her fingers to unclench from the boards and went to stand. “It’s not just that.” He caught her wrist before she could rise. It was instinct that had her jerking back, instinct that had her pulse stopping than accelerating in fear. It didn’t go unnoticed by Ian, either, damn him. Although he said nothing, he let go. She managed to rise to her feet in a slow, unhurried motion. “Look, it doesn’t matter. You’re Brannon’s friend and it’s not a secret that I’ve got some fences to mend when it comes to my family.” She gave him an easy smile and an easy shrug before she turned and headed down the dock. “But it’s probably wiser all around if you just stop this . . . whatever this is. The hot-and-cold thing gets old and I—” The words froze in her throat as she turned and found him just a foot away. Whoa. He was quiet. Big. Sexy. Quiet. And he watched her with eyes that saw a lot deeper than she liked. “The problem with stopping the hot-and-cold thing is that there is no cold.” He lifted a hand and caught one of her curls, twining it around his finger. His gaze, dark and seductive, richer than melted chocolate, held hers. “I look at you and feel nothing but fire.” in me, Neve. I think you know it, too. Now if it was just fire, then it wouldn’t be such a problem. Fire is all well and good, but it’s easy . . . and sometimes over in a flash. But this . . . ” He moved a hand between them. “I don’t think it’s just fire. You feel it, too. That’s why you’re so nervous. That’s why you’re so afraid.” Her heart knocked up against her ribs. “Well. Aren’t you arrogant?” she said, surprising herself with how steady her voice sounded. “Is it arrogance when we both know I’m right?” He took another step, taking away a few of those precious inches between them, twining a bit more of her hair around his finger. She had to tilt her head back now to hold his gaze. “I made a misstep when I let things I didn’t understand influence any decision I made,” he murmured, his eyes falling from hers now. He was rubbing her hair, his thumb stroking back and forth over the curl he was toying with. She could just barely see it but the action was oddly mesmerizing. “There are, after all, two sides to every story, aren’t there?” Now his gaze lifted back to hers. Swallowing, Neve tried for a snide tone as she asked, “Oh, is this where you ask me to explain my side of what happened?” “No. This is where I kiss you.” If he’d given her any more warning, she might have been able to . . . to . . . Oh, hell. Neve couldn’t have done anything. Anything but grab at his shoulders and hold on tight.

Mastered: The Enforcer series #1 by Maya Banks ~ Happy Release Day!

Mastered
The Enforcers series #1
by Maya Banks

The #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Surrender Trilogy and the Breathless Trilogy knows what makes readers hot. Now she turns it up in Mastered, the explosive first book in a new series of a desire too dangerous to resist.

What he wants, he takes with no remorse or guilt.

She stood out in his club like a gem, unspoiled and untouched. A lamb among wolves, she clearly didn’t belong. Drawn to her innocence he watched as she was surrounded by men who saw what he did—but no one but him could touch her. He summoned her to his private quarters. He sensed her fear. He also recognized the desire in her eyes. And he knew she wouldn’t leave before he possessed her. She had no need to know his secrets. Not until he had her under his complete and utter control.

What he wants, she isn’t sure she can give him.

The moment he told her want he wanted, she couldn’t resist. Instinct told her to run, but her heart said stay and walk the fine line between pleasure and pain. Though she wasn’t sure she could ever completely surrender, the primal part of her wanted to try, even knowing this man could break her in ways she never imagined. Because once he possessed her, he owned her and it would be too late to turn back. She can only pray that he doesn’t destroy her in the end.

Review:

Mastered is book #1 in Maya Banks latest series ~ The Enforcers, and for the first time in her career, Maya has a 2 part book! Yes, there is a cliffhanger at the end of Mastered. But to be honest...I didn't mind (and I hate cliffhangers!) I keep up with my favorite author by being a fan of her FB page and the explanation of this book being a 2-parter was because the characters kept talking to her and there was no way she could have shortened the story  it would have been a disservice to us readers.(Mastered is a full length novel) I agree, the story could never have been shortened.

Evangeline is a small town girl living in the big city and working to help her parents who are disabled. After finding her boyfriend in bed with another woman, Evangeline is feeling very inadequate when it comes to men. She has allowed her "besties" to talk her into putting herself out there and spending an evening at an exclusive club ~ the club where the ex frequents. Yup, the ex was there and started in on her the moment he saw her. In swoops Drake, the elusive club owner, to the rescue....or rather he sent his "men" to her rescue. (I can't wait to see more from these secondary characters)

Drake is an enigma ~ he is sexy, alpha, rich, and kinda sorta runs his businesses just this side of the law. He is a man who knows what he likes and takes what he wants, and as he was watching the incident unfold in his club with Evangeline...he knows he wants her.

I am not one who usually likes the girl to be so "weak" and Evangeline is definitely weak in character and confidence, but for this story I find that it works for me. The story is about trust, giving & taking in a relationship, and it's about lots of hot sex! I also like that as much as Drake is an alpha in all things he does...he does have some weaknesses too, he has never had someone who wants him for just himself and not his money.

I thoroughly enjoyed Mastered and look forward to Part 2 of Evangeline & Drake's story, in Dominated (approx release date 05/03/2016)

Author:

My name is Maya Banks and I live in Texas with my husband and three children and our assortment of pets. I’m more of a cat person, but my daughter became convinced she NEEDED a dog. So convinced in fact that it became her mission to convince her father and me. She prepared aMaya's Dogtwo page hand written proposal that detailed WHY she needed a dog, and well, after I sent her to her father (I knew he wouldn’t tell her no) we embarked on the search for the perfect dog. The journey that was two hours away and that I got pulled over for speeding while I was on the phone with my agent who had an offer from a publisher for one of my books… The officer wasn’t impressed. He wrote me a ticket anyway. Thus, I now tell my daughter that her dog turned into one very expensive concession! But isn’t he cute?

When I’m not writing, I love to hunt and fish with my family. We all love the outdoors and go on family hunting trips every year. We also love to travel. One of our more recent trips was to Scotland, which was every bit as comical as National Lampoon’s European Vacation. You know the part about “Look kids, Big Ben, Parliament” as they went round and round the roundabouts? Yeah, that was us, only we couldn’t even get out of the airport in Glasgow without hitting three of those suckers.

Perhaps the most rewarding aspect of a writing career is getting to meet so many wonderful readers. There’s nothing better than dishing books with someone who loves the romance genre as much as I do. Romance readers are passionate and vocal. We love our books, love our happily ever afters, and we love to spend time talking to others about our favorites. THIS is why I love my job so much, and I’m so grateful to readers who gave ME a chance when I began my career. So thank you.

Love,
Maya Banks

Book Addict's Holiday Traditions

Every family has their own Holiday traditions some may be based on religion, some may be based on region, or just passed down through the years.

Here is just a little bit about my family's Christmas traditions.

When I was a kid, I would look forward to Christmas Eve because we (my 4 siblings & I) were allowed to open one gift before bed. I don't do that with my kids~not sure why?!

As we grew up and got married, my siblings, their spouses, and our parents decided there were way too many of us to purchase gifts for, so around Thanksgiving, we adults will draw names and whomever we get ~ we stuff their stocking! This can be really fun and of course it keeps the cost down too.

One of the things I love to do every year with my kids, while we are on vacation at our cabin usually during August, I take the kids to a local tree farm and we tag our tree. Then in December our freshly cut tree is delivered right to our front porch via Fed Ex! I always know the date to expect the tree, but the kids don't ~ so it is always quite the surprise to come home from school and see the tree on our porch.

Of course my most favorite Christmas tradition is after the kids all go to bed ~ I love to curl up with a nice adult beverage and a fantastic new Holiday book and just relax!

Review:

Pursuing Grace is the prequel novella in a 3 book (so far) series called the Shifter Chronicles. It is the perfect set up for the series and gives wonderfully detailed ideas & background on the Lycan pack, their origins, their hierarchy, even what one goes through during their first "change". Personally, I loved these details because I am not usually one to read many shifter stories and this book gave me quite a feel for the overall idea of shifters.

There is also the beginnings of a love story between Grace & Roman that really started to sizzle. We watch as Grace starts to find her way in the pack with those already established and we see Grace try to push the boundaries of what is normal pack behavior & hierarchy.

Pursuing Grace is an awesome start to what looks like a fantastic series! I look forward to reading more in this series. I would highly recommend this book everyone, especially to those new to the genre.

Happy Release Day ~ Coming Back: Ink & Chrome #3 by Lauren Dane ~ Review

But secretly he still craves the connection he lost when his best friend Adam and the love of his life Jessilynn walked out. Then, he wasn’t ready for the pleasure they promised. Now, things have changed.

Rich, powerful, and insatiable, Adam Gulati is used to getting what he wants. And there’s nothing he wants more than Mick and Jessi. He hasn’t seen either in over a year, but the second he sets eyes on them again his memories—and his desires—can’t be denied.

After trying to live without them, Jessi Franklin realized no one else can satisfy her like Adam and Mick. The three of them need one another—in more ways than one. It’s time to stop pretending and submit to the hunger they all share. But once they go down this road, there’s no turning back. As deeply devoted as they are, no one knows what great bliss their forbidden fantasy will find—or the price they may pay . . .

Review:

I thought the first 2 books in this series were awesome (see links to my reviews below)....but, Coming Back was freakin' fantastic!

Super-sexy, fabulously fun, a love story of checks & balances. Mick, Adam, & Jessi - simply put - they weren't ready for the committed relationship they started way back when.  For years they were best of friends, balancing each other out, working as a team for the greater good of their friendship. When they tried to take the next step in their relationship, they just weren't ready for all that it entailed. Today...it's a completely different story, today...they need each other.

Coming Back is the epitome of an emotional roller coaster ....the highs....the lows...and in the end you are left with the feeling of what a ride!

The story goes like this: While on pregnancy bed rest, Lauren Dane had plenty of down time so her husband took her comments about “giving that writing thing a serious go” to heart and brought home a secondhand laptop. She wrote her first book on it before it gave up the ghost. Even better, she sold that book and never looked back.
