Book Addict's Holiday Traditions
Every family has their own Holiday traditions some may be based on religion, some may be based on region, or just passed down through the years.
Here is just a little bit about my family's Christmas traditions.
When I was a kid, I would look forward to Christmas Eve because we (my 4 siblings & I) were allowed to open one gift before bed. I don't do that with my kids~not sure why?!
As we grew up and got married, my siblings, their spouses, and our parents decided there were way too many of us to purchase gifts for, so around Thanksgiving, we adults will draw names and whomever we get ~ we stuff their stocking! This can be really fun and of course it keeps the cost down too.
One of the things I love to do every year with my kids, while we are on vacation at our cabin usually during August, I take the kids to a local tree farm and we tag our tree. Then in December our freshly cut tree is delivered right to our front porch via Fed Ex! I always know the date to expect the tree, but the kids don't ~ so it is always quite the surprise to come home from school and see the tree on our porch.
Of course my most favorite Christmas tradition is after the kids all go to bed ~ I love to curl up with a nice adult beverage and a fantastic new Holiday book and just relax!

(And I'm not saying that just because of that one time I cheerfully beat my second cousin's 8-year-old son in Simon Says with two bucks on the line. Others have been more ruthless than I. LOL)

ReplyDeleteBefore my son passed last year, we'd wake Christmas morning, open gifts and then go to my Mother's house to have brunch and open more gifts. Then we'd spend a nice relaxing afternoon together, waiting for it to get dark out and go around looking at Christmas lights.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE reading, I stopped for a long time after my son's passing, but I am just getting back into it and can't afford any books right now, so I am stuck reading the free ones and then I can't get the next book of the sets.
