Always For You: Jack by Alexis Morgan ~ Review

Always For You: Jack
Sergeant Joe's Boys #1
by Alexis Morgan

Praised by Susan Mallery as a bestselling author whose "heartfelt, touching stories never disappoint," Alexis Morgan introduces Sergeant Joe's Boys: three brothers living up to a legacy of courageous military service—and pursuing the women who have captured their hearts.

No one understands family loyalty like Jack McShane. He'd do anything to honor his foster father's last wishes, even if it means putting his own plans on hold to manage Joe's construction business. An ex-Special Forces operative, Jack thrives on the thrill of globe-hopping rescues. But now he's needed closer to home. His foster mother has her hands full with a troubled teen, and when Jack meets the hired tutor, he discovers a woman who stirs his protective instincts—and his deepest desires.

Caitlyn Curtis knows that good looks can hide a hot temper. After an abusive marriage crushed her dreams of a happy ending, she swore off men—until one intoxicating dance in Jack's strong arms breaks down every emotional barrier. Tough but tender, he leaves Caitlyn yearning for more of his gentle seduction. Despite the violence he's seen, Jack is a good man. And even though passion can be dangerous, the promise of Jack's kiss tempts her to believe that love is a risk worth taking.

Review

This is the first contemporary romance I have read by Alexis Morgan, I have read her Palidins & Talions sci-fi romance series and loved those. Sergeants Joe's series looks like it will be 3 books long, with each book focusing on a different "brother". Sergeant Joe and his wife couldn't have children, instead, they rescued & adopted 3 boys from broken homes. Always For You is Jack's story.

Jack never thought he would be taking over his father's construction business, but with a career ending knee injury and the death of his Father, he figured the least he could do was finish up his Dad's "to do" list. While working on a job-site, Jack notices a homeless teenager hanging around and recognizes in the boy a bit of himself and offers the kid, Ricky, a job.

Ricky is seriously injured and hospitalized and the police contact Jack because the kid has his business card. Jack offers, with some help from his Mom, to watch over Ricky while he heals. While Jack is slowly trying to build up trust between him & Ricky, he hires a tutor, Caitlyn, to get Ricky caught up with his school work.

Sparks fly between Jack & Caitlyn, who has her own trust issues to deal with when it comes to her ex-husband. This book is not your usual romance, it was a full-on emotional read for me. There is more emphasis on outside issues than the romance itself, but it was a very nice change for me. I cannot wait to read the other brother's stories.
